Don’t Tell The Bride Series 5, Episode 1

The new series of BBC3’s reality series Don’t Tell The Bride opened on Tuesday with a very wacky episode. Scottish couple Jackie and John met at his local working men’s club. As soon as I saw John’s rather dubious fashion sense, I had a great sense of foreboding about his wedding planning skills. John chose Jackie’s dress in 10 minutes, and it was the first one that his best man tried on (!!)

Poor Jackie wanted something elegant and sophisticated. She probably shouldn’t have left the organising to John then. Thankfully, she loved the dress, but the smile was soon wiped off her face when she realised that John had booked a sky diving trip for her before the ceremony. Rather a cruel trick to play on someone who was apparently scared of heights. Ouch. Surprisingly however, Jackie decided to go through with it and said afterwards that it was an amazing experience, but she was still going to punch John when she saw him. Fair enough. She, and all the guests, were then driven to a romantic castle for the ceremony, at the beginning of which Jackie smacked John repeatedly with her bouquet. The ceremony went ahead and both bride and groom were happy. For a few minutes anyway.

To Jackie’s utter shock and disgust, she and John were then driven to none other than the Kirkintilloch Miners’ Club for the reception. Classy huh?! Reluctantly, Jackie allowed John to lead her into the building, where she discovered that the whole room had been decked out in Christmas decorations as Jackie apparently loved Christmas. The wedding took place in May. Despite her initial disappointment at the choice of venue, Jackie was happy in the end and the rest of the day seemed to go off without a hitch.

Verdict on the dress: not really my taste – I’ve seen far too many dresses like it, but if the bride and groom were happy with it, that’s all that really matters.

Verdict on the venue: Loved the castle, didn’t like the Miners’ Club.

Verdict on overall programme: Trashy TV at its best! Fun to indulge in every now and again. I was glad that it all went well for the couple in the end.

This episode sounds better than an episode of Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil, and Jeremy Kyle.
